Fire breaks out in Intramuros, Manila near cathedral


A fire broke out at a commercial establishment near the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros on Saturday morning.

The fire affected a three-storey building on Beaterio Street at the back of Manila Cathedral, according to a report on Super Radyo dzBB by Carlo Mateo.

Thick white smoke could be seen in the area past 8 a.m.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) raised the second alarm before the fire was placed under control past 9 a.m.

"Sa ngayon ay under control na po tayo as of 0901," BFP Manila District Fire Marshal Fire Senior Superintendent Aristotle Bañaga said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB.

(For now the fire is under control as of 9:01 a.m.)

The fire was thereafter put out at 9:10 a.m.

 

 

 

Bañaga said no one was trapped or got injured in the fire incident which started at almost 8 a.m.

Initial investigation by the BFP showed that the fire started from one of the units on the first floor.

The fire quickly spread, and one of those affected was the branch of a bank.

The BFP is conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and estimated cost of structural damage. —KG, GMA Integrated News
