Barangay Santolan's Pakalog Festival has residents roasting lechon on New Year's Eve
A barangay in Pasig City will welcome the New Year as one community bonding over lechon.
According to Mark Salazar's report on "24 Oras," the Pakalog Festival or "community litsunan" in Barangay Santolan was the idea of the elderly in the community.
“Yung mga matatanda, sila ang nagpauso ng bawal ang paputok. Magli-litson nalang. Pwede lahat kumuha,” a resident said.
(The seniors werethe ones who implemented a ban on firecrackers. We’ll just buy letson. Anyone can take some.)
“Marami nang matatandang tiga-Santolan na sila ang namamahala nito. Sila nagleletson. Kami, alalay lang. hanggang Nawala na sila, kami na pumalit,” added another resident.
(There were a lot of older residents of Santolan who led this. They were the ones roasting the letson. We were just assistants. When they were gone, we were the ones who replaced them.)
Neighborhoods are roasting letson in each areas and will be joining together to feast while enjoying music from a live band. —Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/NB, GMA Integrated News
