QC sets up fireworks display zones ahead of New Year’s Eve
The Quezon City government is reminding its residents of designated fireworks display zones ahead of the New Year’s Eve celebration on December 31.
According to JP Soriano’s report in 24 Oras on Thursday, the local government of QC issued an ordinance last year prohibiting fireworks in public places, even in front of your own home.
Barangay officials in Vasra, QC have been making rounds in residential areas to remind everyone of the ordinance on fireworks display.
Before the city’s Department of Public Safety and Order approves a designated area, it should comply first with Fire Code’s safety requirements such as spacious area and away from fire hazard structures.
Further, only legal firecrackers are allowed to be lit on New Year’s Eve.
Ian, who has been lighting firecrackers to welcome the new year, said that he agrees with the city ordinance for the sake of everyone's safety.
“Pakiramdaman na lang po basta nasa gitna po lahat ng paputok para maiwasan natin yung may maputukan. Kasi unlike nung dating New Year, kahit saan talaga ,” he said.
(We will just be cautious as long as the firecracker is in the middle of the road to avoid hurting anyone. Unlike the previous New Year’s Eve, everyone has been lighting firecrackers everywhere.)
Despite ordinances, precautions by the public is still a must. In Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental, a firework display shot the watchers around instead of flying up in the air. But no one was injured from the accident.
The Department of Health has been pushing for an absolute ban on fireworks due to casualties being recorded.
More than 600 were injured by firecrackers during New Year’s Eve in 2023.
