Manila City Jail seeks more paralegal officers in 2025

The Manila City Jail is seeking additional paralegal officers to cater to over 3,000 inmates in its male dormitory.

According to Tuesday Niu’s report in Super Radyo dzBB on Wednesday, Jail Superintendent Lino Soriano said that there are only four paralegal officers available who can accommodate the 3,596 male inmates.

The current ratio between the paralegal officers and the male persons deprived with liberty is at 1:900. Soriano said the ideal ratio should be 1:300, the report added.

With the additional paralegal officers, the city jail hopes to address the 204% congestion rate in the male dormitory as the prescribed number of PDLs should only be at 1,182.

The paralegal officers will work on the inmates’ cases and the records of those who served the minimum period of sentence, and by computing one’s good conduct time allowance.
