Last-minute shoppers flock to Baclaran amid Christmas rush

Three days before Christmas Day, shoppers headed to Baclaran Market in Parañaque City for some last-minute shopping.

In Jamie Santos’ report on Sunday’s 24 Oras Weekend, many of the churchgoers went to the stalls around Baclaran Church after attending the Eucharistic celebration.

Customers said they opted to buy gifts in Baclaran since the retailers there offer more affordable choices.

However, some vendors said sales are still slow compared to previous holiday seasons.

“Napakatumal po ung dating. Pag ganitong linggo dati nakaka P20,000 ako. Ngayon, di umaabot ng P10,000 dahil sa online,” a vendor said.

(The sales are really slow. During this week, I usually earn P20,000. Now, I earned less than P10,000 since there’s online selling.)

Vehicle traffic headed to the church was bumper to bumper, and parking was almost full.

There were also a lot of last-minute shoppers at the commercial district of Divisoria in Manila.

Meanwhile, traffic along EDSA was observed to have been lighter compared to Saturday, but some portions of the metropolis experienced moderate to slow traffic.—Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
