Wanted fugitive nabbed in Marikina River chase
Authorities arrested an alleged criminal fugitive who attempted to escape by swimming in the Marikina River, a report by Emil Sumangil on 24 Oras said Thursday.
The report said the suspect was collared after he got stuck in water lilies.
"Napansin niya itong mga operatiba, kanyang nilangoy 'yung kahabaan ng ilog... mula dito sa west bank to east bank," said Police Major Loreto Tigno, chief for investigation of the Pasig police.
(When he noticed our operatives, he swam across the river... from the west bank to the east bank.)
Police apprehended the suspect on the strength of an arrest warrant for multiple crimes.
"Nakasampa rito sa aming himpilan, mga kasong robbery, illegal possession of firearms, drugs and carnapping," Tigno said.

Authorities received reports of the suspect's whereabouts when he was spotted at the boundary of Pasig and Cainta.
"Ang ating mamamayan ay nagbigay ng info sa amin. Matagal na namin itong hinahanap dahil sa mga kasong kinasasangkutan," Tigno said.
