6 dead in fire in residential building in Sampaloc, Manila
Six people died in a fire that engulfed a residential building in Sampaloc, Manila before dawn on Saturday.
The victims were two children and four adults, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said, according to a report on Dobol B TV by Carlo Mateo.
The incident occurred in a four-storey residential building on Laong Laan corner Blumentritt Road.
The BFP said they first received information on the fire at 2:40 a.m.
They raised the first alarm at 2:49 a.m. then second alarm at 2:50 a.m.
Firemen and fire volunteers had difficulty getting into the affected area since the entrance was very narrow and could only fit one person.
The victims were from two families, the BFP Station 5 commander said.
The second floor of the house gave way and fell onto the floor, he added. The flooring of the second floor was made of wood.
Three bodies were found on the second floor while the others were on the ground floor.
The BFP is still investigating the cause of the fire, but one angle being looked into is possible electrical wiring problem. —KG, GMA Integrated News
