More than 1K families in Manila, almost 2K families in QC evacuate due to Pepito
More than 1,000 families evacuated their homes in Manila over the weekend due to the threat of Super Typhoon Pepito (international name: Man-Yi), the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said.
The evacuees were from Baseco, Parola Compound, and Barangays 101 and 128, according to a report by Jhomer Apresto on Balitanghali on Monday.
They were brought to President Corazon C. Aquino High School and Delpan evacuation centers.
Some families slept in corridors of the evacuation centers as evacuees continued arriving before midnight on Sunday.
Meanwhile, in Quezon City, almost 2,000 residents remained in three evacuation centers, according to a report by Bea Pinlac on Unang Balita on Monday.
The evacuees said they already learned their lesson from past typhoons and storms and would rather be safe in evacuation centers rather than risk getting stuck in their flooded homes.
In one evacuation center, the modular tents were not enough for the evacuees.
Pepito caused flooding and devastation in other areas of Luzon over the weekend. It first made landfall in Catanduanes, then in Aurora before traversing the Luzon landmass. —KG, GMA Integrated News
