PITX, Ninoy Aquino, Dr. Santos top stations in terms of volume on 1st day of LRT1 Extension ops
The first phase of Light Rail Transit Line 1’s (LRT1) Cavite extension project started operations on Saturday, November 16, 2024, opening its five stations to the commuting public.
Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) spokesperson Jacqueline Gorospe said that on the first day of LRT1 Cavite Extension Phase 1’s (L1CE) operations, the top stations in terms of passenger volume were PITX, Ninoy Aquino Ave., and Dr. Santos.
“We also saw an increase of southbound passengers from EDSA Station as they are heading to L1CE stations (mostly PITX) As of 10am, EDSA southbound ridership already breached its usual weekend figure,” Gorospe said.
“For Dr. Santos Station, we also observed more first-time train riders and families opting not to use their personal vehicles especially since it's a weekend,” she added.
The five new stations under LRT1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 are Redemptorist – AseanaStation, MIA Road Station, PITX Station, Ninoy Aquino Avenue Station, and Dr. Santos (formerly Sucat) Station.
These additional stations are part of the 27 kilometers of the rail line’s alignment from its previous 20.7 kilometers with only 20 stations.
LRMC will implement the existing LRT1 train service hours for the entire line, now with 25 stations.
For weekdays, the first train will depart from Dr. Santos Station and Fernando Poe Jr. Station at 4:30 a.m., while the last train will leave Dr. Santos Station at 10:00 p.m. and Fernando Poe Jr. Station at 10:15 p.m.
On weekends and holidays, the first train will depart at 5:00 a.m., and the last train will leave at 9:30 p.m. from Dr. Santos and 9:45 p.m. from Fernando Poe Jr. Station.
LRMC will also adopt the existing fare structure for the five new stations.
The boarding fare remains at P13.29, with a distance fare of P1.21 per kilometer.
The maximum Single Journey Ticket fare for an end-to-end trip from Fernando Poe Jr. Station to Dr. Santos Station and vice versa is P45, while Stored Value Card fare is at P43.
