MMC eyes ordinance vs people reserving parking slots in NCR
The Metro Manila Council (MMC) is planning to create an ordinance penalizing people who are standing on parking slots to reserve them in the National Capital Region (NCR), an official said on Thursday.
“As soon as possible, aaralin lang namin mabuti (We will do it as soon as possible, we are just studying it thoroughly),” Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairperson Romando Artes said at a press conference right after a meeting of the MMC.
The 17 local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila are expected to pass a uniform ordinance on prohibiting and penalizing people who are reserving parking slots, according to Artes.
“Magco-coordinate tayo sa mga may-ari ng mga malls at yung mga private parking para ma-institutionalize din ito at mapagbawalan. Kasi kalimitan doon din nag-aagawan sa mga private parking,” Artes said.
(We will coordinate with the owners of the malls and private parking lots so that it can also be institutionalized and banned. Because usually there are fights over private parking lots there.)
Artes said the MMC came up with the idea after receiving reports of violent incidents due to fights over parking lots.
The MMDA chairperson cited a posted video from another country where a motorist ran over a person who was standing on a parking slot to reserve it and people on the comment section were cheering over the incident.
Aside from this, he also cited a video showing a person pushing someone standing on a parking lot in a cemetery in Metro Manila. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
