P5M worth of counterfeit milk for senior citizens, diabetics seized in Rizal
At least P5 million worth of fake milk for senior citizens and diabetics were seized in a warehouse in Cainta, Rizal following a complaint from a brand.
According to John Consulta’s exclusive report on “24 Oras” on Friday, the National Bureau of Investigation Intellectual Property Rights Division (NBI IPRD) raided the warehouse located inside a subdivision.
Operatives saw some of the fake products already packed and ready for delivery to those who ordered them online for a cheaper price.
(A company making special milk reported the case to us. They are complaining about an entity making a counterfeit version of their products. We verified it and we were able to confirm that there’s an establishment within Rizal area that sells fake milk.)
Around 4,000 milk cans were confiscated during the raid, the NBI added.
(In the original brand, the label is already printed on the can. But the fake one, only a sticker is placed on the can, which indicates that it’s a fake product. We are not even sure about the contents of these fake milk products.)
Charges for trademark infringement and unfair competition will be filed against the company behind the counterfeit products.
The NBI will also file a motion for destruction to destroy all the fake milk products.
Further, the bureau reminded the public to only buy such products from legitimate supermarkets or stores.—Vince Ferreras/LDF, GMA Integrated News
