BI intercepts passenger over fake CFO certificate
A female passenger was intercepted at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for presenting a counterfeit Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) certificate.
According to the Bureau of Immigration (BI), immigration officers stopped the 23-year-old victim — who attempted to depart for Japan on November 2 at NAIA Terminal 3— after noticing inconsistencies in the CFO Guidance and Counseling Program (GCP) Certificate she presented. A verification of the document yielded its certificate number is non-existent.
The BI said the victim initially claimed to be traveling overseas to visit her Japanese husband in Nagoya but later admitted she had purchased the document through a fixer online.
She was referred to the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) for the filing of appropriate charges against the source of the fake document.
The BI warned travelers against accepting offers of fixers on social media. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
