2 Chinese fugitives nabbed in Manila

Two Chinese fugitives wanted in their country for their alleged involvement in economic crimes were arrested by authorities in Tondo, Manila.

The Bureau of Immigration fugitive search unit (BI-FSU) apprehended suspects Su Yan, 47, and  Hui Chi Lam, 55, in their residence on October 31 on the basis of a mission order issued at the deportation request of the Chinese government.

They are now detained at the BI detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City while awaiting deportation.

“They will be deported for being undesirable aliens and their names will be included in our blacklist, banning them from re-entering the Philippines,” BI Commissioner Joel Viado said in a news release on Monday.

Meanwhile, BI-FSU acting chief Rendel Ryan Sy said arrest warrants were issued against Su and Hui by the public security bureau of Luxi County in Jianxi in March after they allegedly colluded in selling financial products to investors without the required qualifications and permits from the proper government agencies.

The suspects were believed to have amassed profits of more than 59 million yuan, or roughly US$8.2 million since they started their racket in 2018.

Sy also alleged both suspects were overstaying in the Philippines.—Joahna Lei Casilao/LDF, GMA Integrated News
