SK kagawad nabbed for mauling minor to death in Manila
Authorities nabbed a Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) kagawad for allegedly mauling a minor to death in Manila, Jhomer Apresto reported Monday on 24 Oras.
In CCTV footage, the victim, 15-year-old Lei, and his friend were seen reporting an incident to barangay personnel.
They reported an earlier incident where an SK kagawad allegedly beat up their friend, who is also a minor, and was left in a park.
CCTV later showed the two suspects, one of them an SK kagawad, approach the victim and punched him.
The two minors fled, but the SK kagawad and his companion chased after them.
The suspects caught up with the victim at a stall in Manalo Street. The SK kagawad mauled Lei with the help of a man wearing a sando shirt, who was said to be the son of a barangay official.
Meanwhile, other men appeared, identified as barangay personnel who supposedly stopped the suspects but not before the victim lost consciousness and fell to the ground.
The two suspects left the victim and chased the victim’s friend.
The suspects later returned to check on the victim before walking away as if nothing happened.
The victim was brought to the hospital but eventually died.
Based on the autopsy report, the victim died due to a traumatic head injury.
The mother’s victim said she does not believe that her son’s group harassed the girlfriend of the suspect.
“May nagsabi po sa side nila na naka pula daw po yung nambastos pero yung anak ko saka mga kaibigan is mga naka-white. Ang napag-initan po yung barkada po ng anak ko saka yung anak ko. Sobrang sakit,” the victim’s mother said.
(Someone from my son’s group said a man wearing a red shirt harassed the woman but my son and his friends wore white clothing. Their anger was taken out to my son and his friends. This is painful.)
The victim’s family wants to hold the barangay personnel accountable since they did not help the boy, when he reported to them.
“Kita naman po sa CCTV, tumayo po agad ung barangay health worker. Makikita din po sa CCTV, lumabas po yung mga tanod, papunta po dun sa dike side,” said Barangay Chairman Sherwin Cañete.
(The CCTV showed that the barangay health worker stood while some barangay tanods went to the dike side.)
The two suspects are under the custody of the Manila Police District. GMA Integrated News has sought comments from the suspects. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
