Manila archdiocese to hold second collection for typhoon victims

Churches under the Archdiocese of Manila will hold a second collection on its weekend masses for the victims of Typhoon Kristine in Quezon and Bicol provinces.

Manila Archbishop Jose Advincula on Thursday issued Circular no. 2024-75, instructing all parish priests, team ministry moderators and members, rectors, mission station priests and chaplains in the archdiocese to conduct a secod collection during the evening mass on Saturday, October 26 and whole day of Sunday, October 27 to gather funds for the typhoon victims.

The collections were likewise asked to be remitted to the Accounting Office of the Arzobispado de Manila on or before October 30.

“My heart and prayers go out to all those affected by Typhoon Kristine particularly in Bicol Region and Quezon Province. We extend our sincere gratitude to the churches and homes that opened their doors to accommodate those affected. The solidarity among Christians is deeply felt in times like these,” said Advincula.

“May we request our priests, consecrated men and women, and lay leaders to continue extending the compassion of the Lord Jesus to the victims, the poor, the hungry, and all those in need,” he said.

The archdiocese covers the parishes in the cities of Manila, Pasay, Makati, Mandaluyong and San Juan.

Meanwhile, the archbishop said the second collection for prison awareness will be moved to November 3.

Latest data from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said 46 people have been reported dead due to the impact of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami).

Rescue workers continue to battle floodwaters to reach residents still trapped on the roofs of their homes as Kristine moved out to sea.
