First alarm raised anew over Marikina River amid heavy rain


The first alarm was raised again at the Marikina River early Thursday evening after its water level rose just a few hours after it went to normal level amid the heavy downpour brought by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine. 

As of 7 p.m., the river's water level is at 15.1 meters.

Rainfall count upstream, meanwhile, is as follows:

  • Mt. Campana: 6 mm
  • Mt. Boso-Boso: 19 mm
  • Mt. Aries: 16 mm
  • Mt. Oro: 2 mm
  • Nangka: 13 mm
  • TOTAL: 56 mm

The Marikina River’s water level returned to normal earlier at 5 p.m. after the first alarm was raised at 4 a.m. this morning.

Metro Manila is currently under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 based on PAGASA’s 5 p.m. bulletin.

Kristine is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday afternoon. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/RF, GMA Integrated News
