2 jeepney drivers go viral after jostling in Caloocan

A show cause order has been issued against the drivers of two jeepneys that were captured in a viral video jostling on a narrow road in Caloocan City, leaving their passengers terrified.

According to Joseph Morong's "24 Oras" report, the incident occurred along Barugo Street in Camarin, Caloocan City, at around 10 p.m. on Thursday.

Based on the investigation, the two vehicles got stuck on the narrow part of the road because of a truck on one side.

“Pinipilit nitong unahan ito, pinipilit nitong si vehicle 2 na nangyari, nasagi niya yung likod at nabasag yung ano niya, ilaw sa harapan,” said Police Captain Joel Pinon, chief of police of Caloocan Police Substation 11.

(Vehicle 2 was trying to overtake, then it bumped the back part of the other jeepney.  This damaged his headlight.)

The report said the jeepney that was behind rammed the other jeepney four more times.

“Pagdating po dun sa parteng Station 12, sa gas station... Doon po binunggo naman to ni vehicle 1 si vehicle 2,” said Pinon.

(When they got near Station 12, at the gas station, that's where vehicle 1 bumped vehicle 2.)

The police officer said the passengers of the two jeepneys could go to the police station to file a complaint for reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property or physical injuries.

“Delikado po ito kasi makita natin na nataranta na yung mga tao sa pagbaba, so pwedeng maaksidente itong sakay nitong pasahero,” said Pinon.

(It's dangerous because we can see that the people were terrified as they got off the jeepneys, they could have figured in an accident.)

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) have also issued a show cause order against the jeepney operators or owners.

The drivers could be charged with reckless driving and obstruction of traffic. Their licenses could also be suspended or revoked because of the incident.

The LTO and LTFRB urged the two drivers to attend the hearing next week.
