Two foreigners, including ex-POGO worker, arrested in anti-drug ops
Two foreigners, including a former worker in a Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO), were arrested during an anti-illegal drugs operation in Pasay City.
According to Nico Waje's report on “Saksi” on Tuesday, the suspects were a Malaysian and a Chinese individual.
The Southern Police District initially targeted the Malaysian citizen, known by the alias “Sing.” But the Chinese suspect, “Chen,” was also caught during the operation following a lead by an informant.
“The upline of the Malaysian national is a Chinese national…Our suspects could have claimed drugs together from the upline, that’s why they were both arrested by the operatives,” said SPD spokesperson Police Major Hazel Asilo in Filipino.
One hundred grams of illegal drugs with a street value of P680,000 were seized from the suspects.
SPD said that the Malaysian suspect was a former POGO worker and most of their buyers were also former POGO employees.
“Since POGOs will be banned in the country, they decided to change their line of work. In our suspect’s case, he decided to sell illegal drugs,” said Asilo.
The two suspects are now in the custody of Pasay City Police.
The SPD is now checking with the Bureau of Immigration if the suspects had documents to legally stay in the country. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/BM, GMA Integrated News
