Police nab 'basag-kotse' suspect linked to hit on Gerald Anderson's car in 2022

The police arrested a suspect in a car robbery in Pasig City, who was also allegedly behind the "basag kotse" gang that victimized actor Gerald Anderson in 2022.

According to Emil Sumangil’s exclusive report on “24 Oras” on Tuesday, the suspect was nabbed in Tondo, Manila during an undercover operation.

The whereabouts of the suspect was traced through the location function of the gadget he stole from the SUV of his latest victim.

“Yung isang gadget na nakuha…naka-open ang location. They attempted na ibebenta, so nag-pose yung mga tao natin as buyer,” said Pasig Police chief Police Colonel Hendrix Mangaldan.

(The location of one of the stolen gadgets was open. They attempted to sell them, so our personnel posed as buyers.)

The suspect is allegedly a member of a “basag-kotse” gang that operates in Pasig City.

Authorities were able to seize more than P500,000 worth of gadgets and other personal items stolen from the vehicle of the latest victim.

“Itong mga biktima natin ay nanood sila ng isang show, and then nag-park sila…itong motorcycle riding-in-tandem suspects, binasag nila ang kotse,” said Mangaldan.

(The victims parked their car and went to see a show… the motorcycle-riding-in-tandem suspects smashed the car’s window.)

“We were able to find out that may mga kaso din sila, similar cases sa Antipolo and in Manila.”

(We were able to find out that they also have similar cases in Antipolo and in Manila.)

The suspect is also linked to carnapping and robberies in other cities. He is now under the custody of the Pasig City Police and will undergo inquest proceedings.
