Technical glitch stalls LRT2 operations anew

Operations of the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT2) have been temporarily suspended due to a technical problem near J. Ruiz Station on Thursday morning, according to the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA).

“Pansamantalang tigil-operasyon ang LRT Line 2 dahil sa isang tren na nagkaroon ng technical problem sa bandang J. Ruiz Station,” the LRTA said in a Facebook post.

LRTA administrator Hernando Cayabyab told Dobol B TV in an interview that the pantograph of a train encountered a problem that forced them to stop the operations in all LRT2 stations.

“Meron po tayong tren na nasiraan ng tinatawag nating pantograph—ito yung parang kung titignan natin yung tren parang may antenna sa taas, ito yung kumukonekta doon s power supply natin yung overhead catenary system natin,” Cayabyab said.

(We have a train that has a damaged pantograph—if you look at the train, it looks like there is an antenna at the top, it is the one that connects to the power supply, our overhead catenary system.)

Cayabyab said that technicians will fix the issue and the affected train will be towed to the stabling track at V. Mapa Station.

The LRTA said LRT2 returned to normal operations at 9:42 a.m.
