P85M worth of smuggled meat seized in Parañaque

The Bureau of Custom seized P85 million worth of meat products in a warehouse in ParaƱaque City.

The Bureau of Custom (BOC) seized P85 million worth of meat products in an anti-smuggling operation in a warehouse in Parañaque City.

In a statement Wednesday, the BOC said authorities inspected the warehouse and discovered a large quantity of frozen food products including duck, chicken, and pork meat.

These items were marked with Chinese and other foreign languages, according to the BOC.

“To secure the items, the team placed temporary padlocks and seals on the warehouse,” the BOC said.

Customs examiners will conduct an inventory of the goods in the presence of Manila International Container Port (MICP) agents and representatives, according to the BOC.

BOC chief Bienvenido Rubio said they “rigorously monitor and regulate agricultural imports to prevent the entry of illicit products that could undermine the integrity of our agricultural industry.”

“Our stringent inspection protocols and enforcement measures ensure that only compliant goods enter the market,” he added. --VAL, GMA Integrated News
