Jealous friend stabs pal to death in Tondo

A man stabbed a friend to death apparently due to jealousy in Tondo, Manila, according to Raffy Tima’s report on 24 Oras.

CCTV footage from the Manila Police District showed a motorcycle arriving at a gas station. The rider gets off and starts chasing another man around the gas station and out into the street while stabbing at him.

A witness, who declined to show his face for his safety, recognized both men.

“Naka ilang ikot pa hanggang sa tumumba na lang yung biktima, kasi parang masasagasaan na rin siya ng truck e...Tinihaya pa niya tapos na kita ko at...kalugar ko ito,” he said.

(They were running around in circles until the victim fell, and he was almost hit by a truck. He fell and that's when I saw and realized, these people were from my area.)

He said that they were friends and both from Barangay 197.

The barangay captain confirmed that the two knew each other.

Before the stabbing, the barangay CCTV showed that the victim passed by the suspect in front of the barangay hall.

After the victim's motorcycle passed, the suspect followed with a borrowed motorcycle.

“Parang nag-isip pa siya e,” said Barangay Captain Arvin Enriques.

(It seems he still thought about it.)

The victim's mother said she could not accept the incident, especially that her son was killed by a friend.

“Masakit sa akin yun, hindi ko alam kung bakit,” said Genara Ranisa Aguilar.

(That hurts me, I don't know why [this happened.])

According to the barangay captain and relatives of the victim, jealousy was the root of the incident.

The suspect, who surrendered later, will undergo a drug test. He will be charged with murder and is already in jail at the MPD. — Sherylin Untalan/BM, GMA Integrated News
