Palace: Classes, gov't work in NCR suspended on Sept. 2
Malacañang announced the suspension of government work and classes in public and private schools in all levels in the National Capital Region (NCR) on Monday, September 2, 2024.
This is due to the bad weather caused by Tropical Storm Enteng (international name: Yagi).
"In view of the inclement weather brought about by Tropical Storm 'Enteng,' classes in public and private schools at all levels within the National Capital Region on 02 September 2024 are hereby suspended," the Office of the Executive Secretary said, as shared by the Presidential Communications Office.
Meanwhile, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin said government work in NCR is also suspended effective 8:30 a.m.
The bad weather also prompted the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to suspend the implementation of the expanded number-coding scheme in NCR for the day. Makati City likewise suspended its own number-coding scheme.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 was raised on Monday morning over nine areas in Luzon as Tropical Storm Enteng (international name: Yagi) was forecast to bring rains and gale-force winds, PAGASA said.
Metro Manila was among the areas under TCWS No. 1.
Marikina River
As the rains continued, water level in Marikina River rose, prompting the local government to raise the second alarm, which means residents are advised to evacuate.
In its update on Facebook page, Marikina City’s public information office said the Marikina River rose to 16 meters at 8:32 a.m. When the water level reaches 18 meters or the third alarm, a "forced evacuation" will be imposed.
At 7:51 a.m., first alarm was raised after the water level in Marikina River rose to 15 meters.
However, the water level continued to subside in the afternoon, lowering it to first alarm again.
As of 4:20 p.m., the city government’s public information office said that the Marikina River’s water level is currently at 15.8 meters. — with Vince Angelo Ferreras/KG/KBK/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
