Caloocan voters divide PH’s most populated barangay into 6 villages


A majority of over 22,000 registered voters have agreed to divide Barangay Bagong Silang in Caloocan City into six separate and independent barangays during a plebiscite conducted on Saturday, August 31.

Based on the certificate of canvass of votes shared by Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Garcia to the media, 22,854 residents voted “yes,” while 2,584 voted “no” when asked if they would allow Barangay 176, also known as Barangay Bagong Silang, to be divided into six barangays.

The new barangays will be known as 176-A, 176-B, 176-C, 176-D, 176-E, and 176-F.

With this, the division of Barangay Bagong Silang into six separate and independent barangays was proclaimed “ratified and approved” by the Barangay Plebiscite Board of Canvassers over the weekend.

Barangay Bagong Silang was known to be the most populated barangay in the Philippines with over 261,000 residents.

A total of 25,345 voters actually voted in the plebiscite out of the 86,153 total voters in the barangay.

The plebiscite to ratify the division of Barangay Bagong Silang into six barangays was pursuant to Republic Act 11993, which was approved on April 3, 2024. —RF, GMA Integrated News
