Comelec to hold plebiscite dividing Caloocan barangay on Aug. 31

Comelec to hold plebiscite dividing Caloocan barangay on Aug 31

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to hold a plebiscite ratifying the separation of Barangay Bagong Silang, Caloocan City into six independent barangays on Saturday, August 31.

The plebiscite is pursuant to Republic Act 11993, according to the poll body.

“Maganda rin itong pag-plebisito para masubok ang kahandaan dyan sa bandang area ng Bagong Silang. At the same time, masyado kasing malaki ang barangay  na ito. Ako naniniwala na tama naman ang decision ng local government na ipropose ang paghahati nito,” said Comelec chairperson George Erwin  Garcia in an interview.

(This plebiscite is a good opportunity to test our preparedness for next year’s polls in the Bagong Silang area. At the same time, this barangay is too large. I  believe the local government's decision to propose dividing it is  correct.)

At least 85,846 registered voters were expected to troop to five voting centers including Bagong Silang Elementary  School, Kalayaan Elementary School, and Kalayaan National High School.

Voters may also cast their ballots at the Silanganag Elementary School, and  Bagong Silang Public High School. The plebiscite will start at 7 a.m.  and end at 3 p.m.

If ratified, Barangay Bagong Silang will be divided into six barangays: Barangay 176-A, 176-B, 176-C,  176-D,  176-E, and  176-F. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
