Road rage leaves 2 people wounded by gunfire in Mandaluyong, suspect shot while resisting arrest

A road rage incident in Mandaluyong City led to a shooting incident that wounded two restaurant employees before a police chase caught the suspect who was shot while resisting arrest.

According to a 24 Oras report by Emil Sumangil on Tuesday, CCTV footage showed two cars speeding through Barangay Addition Hills before the car in front made a u-turn near F. Martinez Street.

As the lead vehicle was making its turn to the opposite lane, the driver of the second car rolled down his window and shot at the first vehicle. The suspect then fled towards Shaw Boulevard and Kalentong.

“Nagkagitgitan lang, nagkayabangan dahil pareho ang sasakyan nila na naka-setup… Maluwag ang kalsada, nagkakahabulan,” said Mandaluyong Police Assistant Chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Robert Delos Reyes.

(They were involved in a traffic spat, bragging with one other because their cars appeared to have been modified… There wasn’t much traffic so there was a chase.)

The stray bullet struck the shoulder of a female employee and the foot of a delivery rider who was eating.

Both victims were taken to a hospital and are in stable condition.

Meanwhile, Mandaluyong Police were able to backtrack the suspect’s path through the cities of Makati and Manila using traffic cameras.

An arresting team found the suspect inside Intramuros.

“Pinaandar niya yung sasakyan, then hanggang sa hinabol at na-corner… Tumigil naman pero nag-resist,” said Delos Reyes.

(He tried to escape by driving away, then he was chased and cornered… He eventually stopped but he attempted to resist.)

The suspect, who was shot on the shoulder, is now recovering in a hospital.

Authorities seized a .45 caliber handgun and suspected party drugs from the suspect’s car.

Eastern Police District Director Police Brigadier General Wilson Asueta said they have filed three counts of frustrated homicide, direct assault, illegal possession of firearms, violation of the Dangerous Drug Law and resistance to agents of authorities. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/RF, GMA Integrated News
