NBI nabs man posing as official from Office of the President at LTO

The National Bureau of Investigation arrested a man allegedly claiming to be secretary with the Office of the President at the Land Transportation Office.

According to a statement on Tuesday, the NBI said the man introduced himself as a “Juanito Tan De Veyra, Ph. D.” when he attempted to apply for a special plate at the LTO-National Capital Region on August 15.

He also presented a business card naming himself as a “Secretary” under the “Office of the President, Committee on Flagship Programs & Projects”.

The LTO-NCR executed an affidavit confirming the incident and an entrapment operation was laid out.

On August 16, NBI Special Task Force operatives arrested De Veyra when arrived to follow-up on his transaction and re-introduced himself as a secretary and said that he could give infrastructure projects to government contractors.

“The Office of the President-Presidential Management Staff Certification disclosed that Juanito Tan De Veyra is not appointed by the President as Secretary of the Presidential Committee. Further, there is no office as Presidential Committee on Flagship Programs & Projects as of date,” the NBI said.

De Veyra is currently undergoing inquest proceedings according to the NBI. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/RF, GMA Integrated News
