Makati LGU allots over P100M for teachers' incentives

The local government of Makati City has allocated P103.5 million to provide various incentives for public school teachers, including their allowances for this year.

Makati Mayor Abby Binay said that for their P3,000 monthly allowance, the city government has allocated P77.5 million for public school teachers, P5.2 million for teaching-related staff, and P4.3 million for non-teaching personnel.

“Every year, the city government allocates a budget for various financial incentives for Makati public school teachers, including additional allowances for teachers in the special education (SPED) and Alternative Learning System (ALS) programs,” Binay said in a press release.

Further, the city has also earmarked P14.5 million for the teachers' fringe benefit of P6,000 which will be given in December.

Aside from that, SPED teachers are given a P2,500 monthly allowance from an allocation of P1.95 million in this year’s budget of the city.

“This added perk underscores our recognition of the extraordinary skills and effort required of teachers working with students who have special needs,” Binay said.

The mayor has since expressed her support for Education Secretary Sonny Angara’s goal to improve the benefits and working conditions of teachers in the country.

“We deeply value our public school teachers in Makati and their role in shaping the future of our youth. Teachers are the backbone of our education system, and their well-being is of paramount importance to us in Makati. We regard them as Makatizens who deserve our full support in every way possible,” Binay said.—Anna Felicia Bajo/AOL, GMA Integrated News
