Mother gives birth in evacuation center, names baby Carina

A mother gave birth in one of the evacuation centers in northern Metro Manila, which was hit by massive flooding due to the Habagat enhanced by tropical cyclone Carina.

According to Ivan Mayrina's report on "24 Oras," Maria Teresa Ragul gave birth to a baby girl on Wednesday and named her Carina or after the cyclone that even reached super typhoon level.

Another mother gave birth to a baby while nearby houses were submerged in floodwater in Barangay Talayan, Quezon City on Wednesday.

According to Mark Salazar's 24 Oras report, Mikaela Bravo gave birth at around 6 a.m. while San Juan River overflowed.

"Kasi nung alas-kwatro sinabi ko na sa lola niya na masakit na ang tiyan e, kung wala pang baha nun kaso alas-sais, dun na tumaas ang baha kaya hindi na namin nadala, diyan na siya nanganak," said Dave Garcia, Mikaela's husband.

(Because at four o'clock I told her grandmother that her stomach was hurting, if there hadn't been a flood by six o'clock, then the flood would have risen so we couldn't take her, that's when she gave birth.)

Mikaela is now in good condition and is now recovering in the hospital with their baby boy, who they say will be named David Esther. —Sherylin Untalan/NB, GMA Integrated News
