Manila Archdiocese to hold fundraising drive for Typhoon Carina, Habagat victims

The Archdiocese of Manila on Thursday announced a fundraising drive for the victims of the widespread floods in Metro Manila and nearby areas caused by Typhoon Carina and the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.

Manila Archbishop Cardinal Jose Advincula urged the 86 parishes under his diocese to donate the funds to be collected during the second collection of all masses on Saturday evening and Sunday to the flood victims.

“My heart and prayers go out to all those affected by the heavy rain and flooding. The solidarity among Christians is deeply felt in times like these,” Advincula said.

“May we request our priests, consecrated men and women, and lay leaders to continue extending the compassion of the Lord Jesus to the victims, the poor, the hungry, and all those in need,” the archbishop added.

The archdiocese covers the parishes in the cities of Manila, Pasay, Makati, Mandaluyong and San Juan.

The Metro Manila Council earlier placed the National Capital Region (NCR) under a state of calamity due to massive flooding in the metropolis.

The effects of Carina and Habagat continued to be felt on Wednesday as livelihoods, homes, and transportation were disrupted in different parts of the country.

Floods, swollen rivers, landslides, and soil erosion, among others, were reported in different areas.
