Two churches in Quezon City report flooding, suspends masses

The celebration of masses at the San Antonio de Padua Parish in San Francisco Del Monte and the Most Holy Redeemer Parish in Quezon City was suspended starting Thursday, July 25, 2024 after the churches were damaged by floodwaters on Wednesday.

Some photos posted by the San Antonio de Padua parish on its social media page showed floodwaters reached the top of the altar table and lectern of the church while wooden pews are in disarray. The image of the Black Nazarene, candle sticks, and other items were placed on the altar table.

The parish office will also be temporarily closed.

The Most Holy Redeemer Parish, meanwhile, posted photos showing that the church, compound, and surrounding streets were flooded.

Several areas in Quezon City were flooded due to the heavy rains brought about by the Carina-enhanced habagat.

Some residents along Araneta Avenue said the flood brought by the heavy rain is probably the worst flood they have experienced. The power in the area was also cut off as some houses were submerged.

In Barangay Bagong Silangan, some residents evacuated with their pets while others walked through the waist-level flood while carrying their belongings. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
