Barges, boats drift along Marikina river, crash into bridge in Pasig City

At least 13 barges and boats drifted due to strong current in Marikina River hitting the F. Manalo Bridge in Pasig City amid the onslaught of Super Typhoon Carina.

According to a report on “24 Oras,” a portion of the bridge was damaged and some of the boats turned upside down while some were stuck underneath the bridge, others were swept away by the strong current. 

Marikina City Mayor Marcy Teodoro said the vessels came from Barangay Barangka, the report said. 

The report added that some 20 people were rescued from the incident.
