Forced evacuation implemented near Marikina River

The local government of Marikina has implemented the forced evacuation of residents near the Marikina River as its water level of reached the third alarm

According to Bernadette Reyes’s report on "24 Oras," sirens were sounded at past 2 p.m. signaling that the Marikina River had exceeded its limit of 20 meters

Residents moved their belongings and saved their pets as the flood rose in Barangay Tumana.

The “I love Marikina” sign and street signage were almost not visible as the Marikina River Park was submerged in floodwater.

Meanwhile, motorcycles, cars, vans, and even bicycles were parked in elevated areas such as the Marikina Bridge.

Some residents of Provident Village express worry over the sudden increase of the river since it is one of the areas greatly affected by Tropical Storm Ondoy in 2009.

Roads leading to Marikina City were also impassable. That is why Mariqueñno Nolan attempted to cross the high-level flood in Chicco St. in Quezon City to help his child, who is in the flooded area of Barangay Tumana in Marikina City.

However, he failed to pass through the flooded street.

“Mag isa lang yung anak ko sa bahay tapos nag chat sa akin nasa trabaho pala ako kanina. Tumaas na daw yung tubig, ummakyat na daw sa bahay namin,” Nolan said.

(My kid is alone in our house. He messaged me when I was at work that the water level had risen and reached our home.)

Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos had a meeting with Marikina Mayor Marcilo Teodoro past 5 p.m. and discussed the additional help they needed.
