Stranded passengers climbed up the bus that found itself half-submerged in floodwaters on Araneta Avenue in Barangay Tatalon, Quezon City amid heavy rains caused by the Habagat enhanced by Super Typhoon Carina.

According to Emil Sumangil's report on "24 Oras," the video showed that the driver first climed out of the window and looked over the roof after the bus stalled.

Some residents eventually were able to come close and help the stranded passengers.

The responders were able to rescue the stranded passengers by using a boat.

As the downpour persisted, the river almost reached the bridge in Barangay Roxas District, Quezon.

Some residents were able to collect plastic gallons in the hope of making money out of it.

“Malala ngayon kaysa mga nakaraang araw. Triple yung taas ng tubig kasi kahapon siguro hanggang baywang lang ngayon lagpas tao na,” said Jack Luna, one of the residents.

(The flood is worse compared to yesterday. The floodwater has risen three times because it was at a waist level yesterday. Right now, it surpassed the height of a human.)

Those who live at the corner of Saliraya at Campupot streets remained at their houses and said they won’t need to be rescued yet despite the roof-level flood.

A family, whose members include a senior citizen and a kid, were rescued from the second floor of their house.

One of the family members said they left their house since it was dangerous for the children and that they would go to the evacuation station.

Disaster responders rescued five individuals after they were trapped in their house.

Meanwhile, the Holy Family Parish served as an evacuation center for over 800 individuals from three barangays in Quezon City, including Barangay Roxas District.

“Grabe po, sir. Grabe po para bang seconds lang umihi ka lang tapos pagbalik mo ayun na kaya sila nashock po sila ang tubig ngayon second floor na,” Barangay Kagawad Yang Lopez said.

“Wala pong problema because ang aming health center ito lang katabi namin. Nandito sila kanina the doctors, nurses and pharmacists,” she added.

(It is unbelievable because the flood rose in just seconds. We were shocked because the floodwater reached the second floor. We have no problem because we are beside our health center. The doctors, nurses, and pharmacists were able to attend to us a while ago.) —Celine Serquiña/NB, GMA Integrated News
