Residents near La Mesa dam warned of possible flooding

PAGASA on Wednesday afternoon warned residents living near La Mesa Dam of possible flooding

PAGASA on Wednesday afternoon warned residents living near La Mesa Dam of possible flooding as it expects a possible overflow.

"The water level of La Mesa Dam as of 3:50 PM is 80.0 meters and is expected to rise due to continuous occasional rains caused by the Southwest Monsoon," PAGASA said in an advisory.

"Excess flood waters in La Mesa Dam will overflow in the event that the dam elevation reaches 80.15 m," it added.

PAGASA said that water from the dam is expected to affect low-lying areas along the Tullahan River from Quezon City (Fairview, Forest Hills Subd., Quirino Highway, Sta. Quiteria, and San Bartolome), Valenzuela (Brgy. Ligon, North Expressway, La Huerta Subd.) and Malabon.

"All the residents living in the aforementioned areas, especially those near the river banks, are advised to be alert for possible flooding," warned PAGASA.

Flooding has already affected several parts of Metro Manila which is now under a State of Calamity.

According to PAGASA, Batanes remains under storm signal number 2 as typhoon Carina continues to intensify while moving towards Taiwan.

Storm signal no. 1, meanwhile, was up over Babuyan Islands, northern portion of mainland Cagayan, and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
