The Marikina River reached third alarm on Wednesday amid continuous rains brought about by Typhoon Carina and Habagat.

According to Marikina Public Information Office, the water level increased to 18 meters as of 10 a.m., prompting a forced evacuation of residents.

Second alarm was raised at 6:45 a.m. earlier as the water level rose to 16 meters.

The first alarm was raised at 5:30 a.m. , with the water level hitting 15 meters. This means residents should "prepare."

The local government unit is monitoring the Marikina River's water levels as more rain pours due to the Southwest Monsoon which is being enhanced by Typhoon Carina.

State weather bureau PAGASA said Carina has further intensified early Wednesday morning as it continues to move towards Taiwan.

The center of the eye of Typhoon Carina was estimated at 290 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes packing maximum sustained winds of 155 kilometers per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 190 km/h and moving northwestward at 25 km/h.

Signal number 2 was raised over Batanes while signal number 1 was hoisted over Babuyan Islands, northern portion of mainland Cagayan, and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
