Marikina River on first alarm due to heavy rains
The Marikina River was on first alarm past 5 a.m., the local government unit said, as heavy rains overnight led to rising water levels.
The first alarm was raised at 5:30 a.m. as the water reached 15.0 meters.
This means residents should "prepare."
At 6:45 a.m., the second alarm was raised as the water level reached 16 meters. Residents were advised to evacuate.
The local government unit is monitoring the Marikina River's water levels as more rains pour due to the Southwest Monsoon enhanced by Typhoon Carina.
It will raise the third alarm meanwhile will be raised when the water reaches 18 meters, necessitating "forced evacuation".
PAGASA raised the red rainfall warning over Metro Manila, Rizal, and Bataan at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, warning of serious flooding expected in flood-prone areas.
Typhoon Carina has further intensified early Wednesday morning as it continues to move towards Taiwan, according to the latest typhoon bulletin posted by PAGASA.
