One dead in fire in Brgy. Bagong Barrio in Caloocan

One person died in a fire that hit a residential area in Barangay Bagong Barrio, Caloocan City before dawn on Tuesday.

The fatality was a woman aged 59 years old, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said, according to a report by EJ Gomez on Unang Balita.

The fire broke out before 4 a.m. along Arellano Street.

The BFP raised the first alarm, and five of the bureau's firetrucks responded, as well as fire volunteers.

Residents did what they could to save their belongings but some were not able to do so.

One resident who was undergoing dialysis said he was awakened by neighbors as the fire was spreading.

Meanwhile, a boy who was trapped was rescued by firemen.

A team leader of Barangay 133 said an unattended candle may have sparked the fire.
