Police arrested for firing gun while drinking with neighbors in Manila

Authorities have arrested a police officer who allegedly fired a gun while he was drinking with his neighbors in Tondo, Manila.

According to Mark Salazar’s report on "Saksi," CCTV footage of Barangay 87 showed the policeman fired a gun and caused a commotion.

He is detained at the Manila Police District while the charges against him are being prepared.

“Nakita naman ng CCTV camera ito. For the meantime, i-preventive suspend muna tto habang pinapaimbistigahan ito. So, I’ll just get the details dito and I will inform IAS (PNP Internal Affair Service) about this na gawin kaagad ito,” Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos said.

(The incident was caught by a CCTV camera. In the meantime, he is preventively suspended while the investigation is ongoing. I’ll just get the details about this matter and will inform IAS about this and tell them to expedite the process.)

Abalos expressed disappointment over the reports of police misconduct. Yesterday, there was another road rage incident that involved two police officers in Valenzuela City.

According to a police report, the victim glared at the two police officers because they were not wearing helmets while riding a motorcycle.

And allegedly because of that gesture, one of the police took his gun out and punched the victim.

Both police officers were relieved from their post.

“Swelduhan tayo ng ating mga kababayan. Pangalagaan ang kredibilidad at ang safety ng mga tao. Pero kung gagawin nila yung baliktad, sila pa yung mga mag aabuso, sila pa mag di-discharge ng baril eh dapat imbetistigahan dapat ito,” Abalos said.
