Cardinal Advincula requests additional prayer, petitions for peace during mass

Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula has requested parish priests, members of religious congregations, and lay leaders to add prayer petitions for peace in Ukraine, Israel and Palestine, and in the world in all daily masses.

Cardinal Advincula, according to the circular signed by the Vice Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Manila, Fr. Carmelo P. Arada Jr., "requests that we pray the additional intentions for the Prayer of the Faithful during all our daily Masses starting Saturday evening, 21 July 2024."

The Prayer of the Faithful, which the lector reads after the priest delivers his homily, is part of the mass in which the congregation is invited to pray for the concerns of Church and the world.

Arada quoted a part of one of the Wednesday Homilies of Pope Francis, who said, “Let us heed the cry for peace of populations, of the people, of the children! Brothers and sisters, war does not solve any problem: it sows only death and destruction, foments hate, and proliferates revenge. War cancels out the future. I urge believers to take just one side in this conflict: that of peace. But not with words — with prayer, with total dedication.”

The following are the proposed intentions:

English

We earnestly pray to God the Father almighty for peace in Ukraine, the Holy Land and the world. May God cleanse the world of all violence, greed for, and misuse of power that bring suffering and death to many. Let us pray to the Lord.

We pray for those who suffer because of the scourge of war that peace may be granted to them soon and may all live in tranquility and freedom. Let us pray to the Lord.

Father Arada adds, "Let us fervently offer our prayers and sacrifices that the voice of peace may be heard. Thank you very much. Let us unite ourselves in prayer." — BAP, GMA Integrated News
