1 dead after car slams into parked truck in Tondo

One person was killed after a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) rammed into and went under a parked trailer truck in Tondo, Manila, according to Manny Vargas' report on Super Radyo dzBB on Monday.

Based on an initial investigation, the 14-wheeler truck was parked along the inner lane of Mel Lopez Boulevard when the MPV crashed into its back portion.

The car sustained heavy damage due to the impact.

Police on the scene said they have yet to confirm the number of passengers onboard the smashed vehicle.

"'Di pa natin nakukumpirma kung ilan ang laman sa loob ng sasakyan na naaksidente. Ayon sa mga nakakita rito, ang truck ay nakaparada. May inaantay po, ‘yung amo niya," Police Senior Master Sergeant Louie Masangkay of Manila Police District Traffic Enforcement Unit told Super Radyo dzBB.

(We have yet to confirm the number of passengers onboard the car. Witnesses said the truck was parked.)

“Bale, isa pa lang [ang nakikita na pasahero],” Masangkay added.

(Only one passenger is so far known.)

Authorities rented a private truck to tow the MPV.

The truck driver, for his part, said he parked the vehicle on the road to rest and sleep when the incident occurred. —Sundy Locus/KBK, GMA Integrated News
