Baseco shooting suspects nabbed
Two suspects have been nabbed by the police in connection with the murder of a man who was sleeping inside his pedicab in the Baseco compound in Manila.
The suspects — said to be a man and his son-in-law — were detained at the Manila Police District, with both denying involvement.
According to Police Major Philipp Ines, the investigation found that the victim may have been killed due to quarrels over the illegal water tapping in the area, which was being operated by the suspects.
“Pinakialaman nila ‘yung area kung saan nag-o-operate itong mga suspect natin. Dahil doon, nagkaroon ito ng sama ng loob at ‘yun nga, plinano nilang patayin itong biktima,” he said in a report by Jhomer Apresto on GMA’s “24 Oras Weekend” on Sunday.
(They meddled in the area where the suspects operated. Because of that, they had a grudge and they planned to kill the victim.)
Video footage captured early morning last Thursday, July 4, showed a man wearing black standing close to the pedicab. The man in black ran away moments after.
“Isa lang ‘yung tama nitong biktima, pero fatal ito, sa may parteng ulo na agad niyang kinamatay, (The victim was only shot once, but this was fatal, on the head, which caused immediate death),” Ines said.
The alleged gunman denied involvement in the killing and said he was in his residence during the incident.
“Nasa bahay po. Actually po non, ‘yung boarders ko na lumabas po, bumili ng sigarilyo, nasabi ‘pag uwi, ‘Tay si (redacted) po binaril.’ (I was at home. My boarders, went out to buy cigarettes. When they came home said (redacted) was shot),” he said.
The son-in-law, said to be the mastermind, also denied involvement.
“Simula po noong abandonahin ng pamilya ‘yung biktima… Bali sa amin na po ‘yun kumakain. Kami po ‘yung sumagip sa kanya,” he said.
