Woman falls in front of LRT-1 train at Doroteo Jose station in Manila
A woman accidentally fell on the railway tracks at Doroteo Jose Station of LRT-1 in Manila on Tuesday.
According to a 24 Oras report by Ian Cruz on Tuesday, the female passenger narrowly escaped with only minor injuries after an alert guard managed to warn an incoming train to stop.
A viral Facebook video with almost 9 million views showed the woman sitting on the rails along the southbound track in front of an approaching train at around 12:41 p.m.
The train was able to stop in time after a quick thinking security guard activated the stop signal, which alerted the train operator to slow down.
Footage showed the woman being hit by the train's undercarriage before it stopped. The woman fell down on the rails holding her head.
The Manila Police District said the woman accidentally fell onto the tracks. A spot report from the Sta. Cruz police station said the female passenger lost consciousness while waiting for the train and fell from the platform.
The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) earlier said the woman jumped into the tracks.
LMRC personnel were able to immediately respond and bring the victim to the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center for medical treatment.
“The LRMC team was able to respond immediately to assess the passenger status. Per initial assessment, the passenger was conscious and sustained minor injury, and was immediately brought to the hospital and turned over to the proper authorities,” the LRMC said in a statement.
The LRMC also expressed its gratitude to the train operator, who regularly participates in simulation exercises and crisis situation training.
LRT-1 operations were temporarily halted at 12:42 but resumed shortly before 1 p.m.
Meanwhile, the LRMC is now looking at the possibility of installing safety barriers at its train stations but there are currently four generations of trains in use with different door configurations and dimensions.
