Hacked fleet card leads to loss of P14 million worth of diesel
A suspected hacker allegedly stole P14 million worth of diesel after hacking a company's fleet card, the National Bureau of Investigation has said.
According to John Consulta report on “24 Oras,” the NBI arrested the suspect at his residence in Pasig City after the firm said that he hacked their e-mail to gain access to the fleet card.
The suspect then used the fleet card to fill up a truck for almost a month, with the diesel costs amounting to around P14.4 million.
“From the time of their access, the perpetrators were able to modify a lot of things inside the system,” said Francis Señora of the NBI.
“There’s a purchase of gasoline of more than 1,000 liters. Sometimes 5,000 or more within a few hours. After this gasoline has been processed, they will store it, and sell it to a much, much lower rate po,” Señora added.
Also recovered from the suspect’s possession are drug paraphernalia, and fake identification (ID) cards, the report said.
The alleged hacker is now facing charges of computer-related fraud, falsification of public documents, as well as possession and use of drug paraphernalia after he tested positive for using illegal drugs.
Meanwhile, authorities said they would continue conducting forensic examinations on the computer and gadgets seized from the suspect to determine if he had victimized other companies. —Sundy Locus/NB, GMA Integrated News
