Motorcycle taxi rider robs woman inside her gate in San Juan

A motorcycle rider was arrested for robbery in Barangay Addition Hills in San Juan City, according to a report by Nico Waje on “24 Oras Weekend” on Sunday.

CCTV footage shows businesswoman Agnes Wang walking through the gate of her house, quickly followed by a man wearing a mask and a motorcycle helmet.

He is seen gaining the house occupants' attention by pointing at something outside as he steps into the premises of the home, then suddenly grabbing Wang's bag.

Wang and another of the house's occupants then struggle with the man before he is able to wrest the bag away. He then jumps on the back of a waiting motorcycle to escape. The rider of the motorcycle he got on was wearing the uniform of a motorcycle taxi company.

“Akala namin taga-barangay na may sasabihin lang na bawal mag-park diyan, o pa-change lang ng parking pero it turns out na holdaper siya,” Wang said.

(We thought he was from the barangay who was going to ask us to move our car, it turns out he was a robber.)

The bag contained P20,000 cash, Wang's credit cards, and IDs.

“Medyo traumatic po talaga siya kasi siyempre akalain mong sa sariling bahay mananakawan ka,” Wang said.

(It was traumatic since I was robbed in my own house.)

According to the San Juan Police, the case was filed after Wang posted the incident on social media on June 17.

Another incident of hold-up by motorcycle riders was reported to the police two days after the incident. The police were able to arrest the motorcycle rider, who turned out to also have been behind the Wang robbery. He also pointed to the location of his accomplice.

“Positively in-identify noong kanyang latest victims. Pati yung motor na mga markings na natandaan niya noong ito ay isinagawang panghoholdap sa kanya, natandaan niya,” said San Juan Police chief Police Colonel Francis Allan Reglos.

(The latest victim identified the suspect, including the marks of the motorcycle that was used.)

The two suspects refused to give statements.

The police were able to recover the motorcycle that was used to escape the crime scene, but not the stolen items.

Ride-hailing app Move It confirmed that one of the suspects was a motorcycle rider registered with the company.

With the help of their GPS tracking and CCTV footage, Move It determined the identity of the suspect and cooperated immediately with the victim and the police.

Move It also found that the rider is also registered with another motorcycle taxi company.

It added that it is coordinating with authorities and the victim to hold the rider accountable, and with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board to avoid these kinds of crimes. — Celine Serquiña/BM, GMA Integrated News
