MMDA: Number coding lifted on June 17 for Eid'l Adha

The number coding scheme for vehicular volume reduction in Metro Manila will be suspended on Monday, June 17, 2024, as the country observes Eid'l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice.

In a Facebook advisory posted on Saturday, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said enforcement of the coding scheme would be suspended following the holiday declaration of the Eid'l Adha.

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. earlier declared June 17 as a regular holiday. Signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin by authority of the President, Proclamation 579 stated that Eid'l Adha is one of the two greatest feasts of Islam.

It said that the declaration of regular holiday was made upon the recommendation of the National Commission on Filipinos, based on the 1445 Hijrah Islamic Lunar Calendar.

Under the number coding scheme, vehicles are barred from major thoroughfares of Metro Manila from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and  5 p.m. to 8 p.m., depending on the last digit of their license plates. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
