Trash-filled footbridge in QC cleaned; City Hall to ensure its condition
City and government agency workers have cleaned the footbridge on C3 Road corner A. Bonifacio in Quezon City that was reported filthy.
According to a “24 Oras” report on Tuesday, officials of Barangay San Jose and some fire volunteers, street sweepers and personnel of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) worked together to clean the walkway and the stairs.
“24 Oras Weekend” earlier reported that the footbridge reeked from the deposits of garbage as well as human and animal waste, leading pedestrians to cross on the ground level instead.
Barangay San Jose officials said they have had the bridge cleaned multiple times, but people staying on the bridge always come back, and the trash and waste return as well.
Quezon City Hall said it will ensure the cleanliness of the footbridge.
It added that it already had an agreement with the MMDA to maintain the cleanliness of footbridges, but that this particular footbridge may not have been included.
The MMDA earlier said it has agreed with the Quezon City local government on the C-3 footbridge maintenance.
“Kami naman ay handa na idagdag ito doon sa 58 footbridges sa ating usufruct [agreement] at bukas ang ating tanggapan upang makipag-usap sa MMDA, lagi naman tayong may kooperasyon sa kanila,” said Alberto Kimpo, Quezon City assistant city administrator
