Damaged concrete barriers pose danger to bikers along East Avenue
Instead of serving as guides, damaged concrete blocks along East Avenue in Quezon City caused minor accidents to cyclists using the bike lane.
“‘Pagkagabi kasi ‘pag walang ilaw, hindi namin mapansin...madaanan namin masesemplang kami,” cyclist John Nil told Kapuso Action Man Emil Sumangil in a “24 Oras” report on Wednesday.
(We can be involved in an accident if we fail to see it, especially at night, if we don’t have bike lamps.)
GMA Integrated News reached out to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Quezon City 2nd District Engineering Office for the replacement of the concrete blocks.
The agency said it would address the issue “as soon as possible” but would also coordinate with the QC government first.
“Tutulong po ang aming opisina para marealign po ang mga concrete blocks na ito para hindi siya mag-cause ng obstruction. Kung ma-recommend po na tanggalin ito permanently, kailangan po muna namin i-formally address ito sa QC LGU,” said engineer Prince Daniel Felisco.
(Our office will help with its realignment. If its removal would be recommended, then we will formally address it with the QC LGU first.)
“As soon as possible po. Gagawa na po ang aming opisina ng pormal na pakikipagpulong sa QC LGU,” Felisco said.
(We will work on it as soon as possible. We will also set a meeting with the city government.)
The DPWH office realigned the concrete blocks in the meantime. It also set a meeting with the QC Engineering Office to remove and replace the obstruction. —Sundy Locus/LDF, GMA Integrated News
