Motorist shot dead in EDSA-Ayala Tunnel

In what could be a road rage incident, a motorist was fatally shot along the EDSA-Ayala Tunnel in Makati City on Tuesday afternoon.

According to a 24 Oras report by Mark Salazar on Tuesday, the victim's white multipurpose vehicle (MPV) came to a stop on the side of the tunnel on the southbound lane after the incident that occurred at around 2 p.m.

Witnesses said the suspect was riding in another car and shot the driver of the multipurpose vehicle through the car window on the driver’s side. The victim, aged 40 to 50 years old, died on the spot.

After being shot, the victim lost control of the vehicle, which caused it to hit the curb and several motorcycles in front.

The suspect quickly escaped from the scene.

The victim’s passengers, a woman and a child, were assisted by a passing motorcycle rider.

“Nakita ko si ate hawak hawak niya si baby… Humihingi ng tulong, pinara ako. Sabi ni ate, galing daw silang BGC. ‘Di lang daw sila nagkabigayan sa kalsada, sa daan, ‘yun. Pailalim daw sila, tapos yung Mercedes Benz na kulay itim paakyat daw nung Ayala. ‘Yun, bigla nalang daw po may isang putok lang daw. Tapos ‘yun nakita daw niya ‘yung driver niya nag aagaw buhay na,” the rider said.

(I saw the woman holding a child… She was asking for help, she flagged me down. She said they came from BGC [Bonifacio Global City]. They just weren’t able to give way on the road. They were about to enter the tunnel, while a black Mercedes Benz was on its way up to Ayala. Suddenly, there was one shot, then she saw her driver dying.)

Police said they are now attempting to track the gunman's vehicle.

Due to the time it took for authorities to process the crime scene, traffic built up in the area and reached from Ayala to Santolan, a length of around 11 kilometers.—Jiselle Anne Casucian/RF, GMA Integrated News
