One dead, one hurt in fire in Ermita, Manila
One person died while another was injured in a fire that broke out in Ermita, Manila on Sunday morning.
The fatality was an 86-year-old female Chinese national, the Manila Police District Station 5 told Super Radyo dzBB reporter Mao dela Cruz.
The injured meanwhile was identified as the child of the fatality.
The fire started at 9:30 a.m. at a residential building at the back of a hotel owned by the family of the victim. The location is in between Alhambra and Guerrero Streets near Plaza Ferguson, according to an earlier report by dela Cruz on Super Radyo dzBB.
The child fainted due to smoke inhalation and was not able to rescue the victim who was bedridden, police said.
The hotel in front of it meanwhile sustained water damage.
Firemen were able to put the fire under control at 10:38 a.m.
The Bureau of Fire Protection is conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and the estimate of property damage.
According to a barangay kagawad however, an employee said a charger and tablet could have caused the fire. —KG, GMA Integrated News
